They range from creative work like poster and algorithmic art to technical jobs like testing web apps and building MCP servers, and enterprise tasks like internal communications and brand guidelines.
It also includes the document skills that power Claude's own file features for Word, PDF, PowerPoint and Excel. Those four are source-available rather than open source, shared as a reference for more complex skills used in production, while many of the others are Apache 2.0.
Alongside the skills sit the Agent Skills specification and a template for writing your own. You can add the whole repo to Claude Code as a plugin marketplace, use the example skills in Claude.ai on paid plans, or upload skills through the Claude API.
Read 19 working examples, including the document skills behind Claude's file features, to learn the patterns before writing your own.
Install the document-skills plugin and Claude gets the same skills that power its built-in document features.
Copy the template skill and follow the Agent Skills spec in the repo: a folder with a SKILL.md, a name and a description is enough to begin.
Run /plugin marketplace add anthropics/skills, then install document-skills or example-skills from the anthropic-agent-skills marketplace. After that you use a skill just by mentioning it, for example asking Claude to use the PDF skill on a file.
Many of the skills are open source under Apache 2.0, including Canvas Design. The Word, PDF, PowerPoint and Excel skills are source-available, not open source. In Claude.ai, the example skills are already available on paid plans.
Anthropic Skills is built for Claude: Claude Code through the plugin marketplace, Claude.ai on paid plans, and the Claude API. The folders follow the Agent Skills standard, which is documented at agentskills.io.
Anthropic provides them for demonstration and education. What Claude does may differ from what a skill shows, so test each one in your own setup before relying on it for critical tasks.
